If you’re a mountain and hiking fan, this is the tour for you. The Fagaras Mountains are spectacular, packed with trails, panoramic views, elusive and rare chamois, shy lynx and tourists. Its two highest peaks, Moldoveanu 2544m and Negoiu 2535m, are a must see for every mountain addict. The Fagaras Mountains are not very hard to climb if you properly do your homework: wear the necessary equipment/footwear, know what to expect when hiking, check the weather and respect the mountain.

Sleepover In Fagaras Mountains
DAY 1SIBIU – AVRIG – NEGOIU MOUNTAIN CABIN
Stop At: Brukenthal Palace in Avrig
The baroque summer residence of baron Samuel von Brukenthal, governor of Transylvania in 18th century, was build in less than 5 years, a replica of Schonbrunn Palace in Viena. The U-shaped structure opens in a park, one visitor attraction being the Orangery in the middle of the garden.
To reach the night’s destinations there is a 40 minutes forest drive from Porumbacu de Sus. We will stop and leave the car at a stone quarry and continue by foot, luggage and all, for a 3 hour forest hike, a 1000m change in altitude reaching Negoiu mountain cabin.
DAY 2NEGOIU CABIN (VALEA ZMEILOR-SARATII WATERFALL) – PORUMBACU DE SUS – SIBIU
Stop At: Valea Zmeilor trail and hiking, Saratii waterfall
Considered the most beautiful mountain and forest trail around Fagaras, this 2 hour route will take you across iron cast bridges connecting vertical mountain walls and steep cliffs. Sounds dangerous, but is rather spectacular, safe and will worth your while.
Coming back to Negoiu’s cabin to collect the luggage and return to the car, a 3 hour descent hiking to Porumbacu de Sus.
Stop At: The Fairy Castle at Porumbacu de Sus
For anyone who hasn’t forgotten their inner child, wants to relive it or get in touch with it, this is the place. Any magical beings that you saw up until you turned 8 still live here. You need to come find them. And simply believe.

A Saxon build city, Europe’s cultural capital in 2007, the 8th most idyllic city of Europe by Forbes magazine and a must see for any traveler who comes to Transylvania. If you are interested in culture, this is the place for you: Brukenthal Palace, Astra village museum, the Lutheran cathedral, you’ll be surrounded and submerged in history. Bring comfortable shoes for its narrow rock paved streets.
